Using a combined budget of €101 000 from the South African (SA) - European Union (EU) Dialogue Facility, the Department of Science and Innovation embarked on two dialogue projects to develop an Open Science policy framework for South Africa.

Case Study 9 – Establishing Protocols, Mechanisms and Policy and for Upholding Human Rights for Vulnerable Groups in South Africa.
Using a combined budget of €109 000 from the South African (SA) and European Union (EU) Dialogue Facility, the South African Human Right Commission (SAHRC) successfully completed two dialogue projects that supported the establishment and implementation of the National Preventative Mechanism (NPM), in response to the ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT).

Case study 8 – Food Waste and Packaging: Reduction, Prevention and Awareness.
Using a combined budget of €123 000 the South African (SA) - European Union (EU) Dialogue Facility conducted two dialogues that addressed the reduction of food waste and packaging in support of the South African government’s efforts to eliminate poverty, unemployment and inequality as well as promoting sustainable environmental practices.

Case Study 7 – Advancing South Africa’s Efforts in Protecting Biodiversity and Upholding Biotrade Standards.
Between 2021 and 2023, and with a combined budget of €131 000, the SA-EU Dialogue Facility conducted four dialogue projects in partnership with the South African Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF).

Three dialogues took place between South Africa (SA) and European Union (EU) partners that centred around the internet and 4IR security.

Case study 5 – Mobilising Stakeholders for TVET Dual System.
Using a budget of €85,000 from the SA-EU Dialogue Facility the Department of High Education (DHET), successfully completed a dialogue project in order to make three critical stakeholder groups in South Africa (labour, business, and government) aware of how to ensure an optimal Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) dual system in the country.

Case Study 4 – Policy Dialogue Between SA and EU Chambers on Engaging Private Sector to Encourage Investment in Research, Development and Innovation.
Using a budget of €94,500.00 from the SA-EU Dialogue Facility the Department of Science and Technology (DST) successfully completed a dialogue project in order to identify how best ensure the private sector in South Africa invests in research, development and innovation.

Case Study 3 – Contribution of EU Investments to Inclusive Growth in South Africa.
Using a budget of €80,000 from the SA-EU Dialogue Facility the Black Management Forum (BMF) in conjunction with Department of Trade and Industry successfully completed a dialogue project in order to provide policy makers with an understanding in relation to the degree of contribution of EU-related Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in South Africa to Inclusive Growth and Transformation.
